Summer Camps

Summer Camp

For the past 15 years, CORD volunteers have organized children’s camps for our sponsored children in Jaffna. Depending on their availability, individuals and families have visited the CORD office to spend meaningful time with the children through games, English learning, arts and crafts, and other fun, interactive activities.

These camps are very special for the sponsored children. They look forward to meeting volunteers from outside their everyday environment, learning about new opportunities, hearing life experiences, and simply enjoying time together. Camps have ranged from two-day programs at the CORD office to five-day programs at a local school, similar to a summer camp.

Who can volunteer:

Anyone who would like to spend time with the children is welcome. Ideally, volunteers should be able to speak Tamil, as most of the sponsored children speak very little English. This helps create a more meaningful and comfortable experience for both the children and the volunteers.

The children deeply value that volunteers take time during their vacation to visit, play with them, teach them new skills, and share their knowledge and experiences. Volunteers, in turn, often leave with hearts full of gratitude, warmth, and unforgettable memories.

Cashew production

CORD initiated a cashew processing facility at Paranthan 20 in Northern Province to employ women in the area who face severe economic hardships during drought months. Since cashew farming requires moderate to lower water when compared with other crops, and it holds high value in the market, it proved to be a successful source of income in such areas. Women work both in cashew farms and in the cashew processing facility.
