Value Based Education: Residential Camp for Children in the North and East from 23rd to 25th February 2013

CORD Sri Lanka along with Chinmaya Mission organized a Residential Camp for children in the North and East who are already part of the sponsor Children program from 23rd to the 25th of February 2013. 96 children from the North and East participated, the main objective of the camp was to facilitate the children to understand the values through equal participation, the main sponsors for this event where CORD Sri Lanka and the Jaffna Education Department.

  The three day Value based Education: residential Camp aimed to help children understand the value of their life to lead it to be a responsible and productive human being.  The following activities were held during the programme  with the facilitation of school teachers ,and from the youganthra volunteers of Chinnmaya mission..

1. Spiritual classes

2. Training on Yoga

3. Meditation class

4. English class

5. Counselling and medical support

6 .Play therapy

7. Cultural activities and competitions.

By end of third day the Northern education director Mr.Selvarajah came as a chief guest along with other representatives of government and non-governmental organisations. All the participants of this residential programme received certificates.

The outcome of this programmes were:

  • 96 students improve their value based thoughts.
  • Children had an opportunity to explore their talents.
  • Children learned to respect each other and others values.
  • Had the opportunity to meet and share their thoughts with friends and teachers.
  • Children understood the spiritual concepts.
  • Basic English knowledge was learned.
  • Children learned and practiced time management.

At the end of the camp the children were sad to leave and requested to have similar programmes in the near furture, this camp also helped parents and care givers of the children understand the importance of keeping children in a happy environment.
